Magpie Darling Magazine

Magpie Darling Magazine.

Finally we all get to see the beautiful photography by Matthew Burditt in Magpie Darling Magazine. This is the editorial that I worked on a couple months ago as a assistant stylist with the clearly incredible stylist Yvadney Davis. This is yet another reminder of colour for the upcoming season. It's like Balliwood meets Blake Lively. Be bold this season is my advice.
The Indian Couture from Lotus Eye, designer Mita Naidu, has created pieces that are edgy and contemporary. I hear the streets of London calling. Yvadney combined her pieces with garments from Spring 2012 BCBG and more which created this unbelievable editorial. Our makeup artist Talysia Ayala had a specific goal in mind : to inject and create a vibrant face with bold colour and a strong cheek.   I am so proud that I was a part of this gorgeous editorial, it has left me breathless and inspired. To view more from the London based magazine, Magpie Darling Mag or to buy the magazine for print or download click here. I hope you all enjoy and love these as much as I do. Watch out Testino, Burditt is on his way. JC

Pastels for Spring

Pastels for Spring

With Spring closer then you think it is that time again to bring back colour to the wardrobe. Sugar and Spring and everything nice right? I feel as though this season will be a new favourite and I know this isn't the first time I have said so. Add a touch of pink or a pastel blue to a Spring outfit and you're set. These new pink pants have become a staple piece for me and I bet you can't guess where I found them. Happy Shopping. JC

Fall'ing with Burberry

Fall'ing with Burberry

London Fashion Week. I know this is not a usual posting for me, but I wanted you all to have a look at what I follow. It is LFW and the Burberry show was obviously the highlight of the season. It was held in a huge tent in the Kensington Gardens and my what a pretty show it was. Made me excited for Fall and it's not even Spring yet. Designer Christopher Bailey held true to his outerwear reputation; it was all about the coats. Every style: trenches, bombers, field jackets, riding jackets and every fiber: wools, tweeds, gabardine, herringbone, corduroy. Mostly a neutral colour pallet--which as a lover of pastels, beiges, and overall a wardrobe of neutral colours this made me fall in love. But what actually made look twice besides the floating umbrellas, and the pretty bow details, were the gloves. Did you see the gloves? Embellished to look like (in my mind) a skeletal appearance. Those are added to my Christmas list..yes for 2012. Take a look at this video that highlights the beautiful show. JC

Headbands and Tiffany's Blue Days

Headbands and Blue Days

I know gossip girl brought a new meaning to the word "headband," but I fell in love with this beaded one I found at Front and Company along with this new blue shirt. With the end of New York Fashion week I put together my favourite street style photos that I found while browsing. Hope you are left inspired. JC

Think Pink

Think Pink

Since the 60s are in the air this Spring I couldn't help but invest in polkadots and something extremely over-the-top bright. Doing the photo shoot on Monday was so much fun. What was meant to be 3 looks, became 8 looks..times that by two because I was styling two models, so 16 all together. What luck though, it is not very often that you end up having sun and no rain in the middle of February in Vancouver. Shooting from 10am-630pm at night the day long event was really very exciting, I can't wait to show all of you. Another reason this post was inspired by pink, was because yesterday was Valentines Day, I wish I had my camera on me at work, so many people all fancy in pinks and reds, black dresses with red accessories were everywhere. I was standing in line at the grocery store and literally 5 men where in front of me all with flowers and chocolates. It was so darn cute. I hope everyone was spoiled and got lots of chocolate and flowers. Happy Wednesday. JC

Edmonton

Edmonton.

This is a flash back post. I used to live here. It's funny how when you leave a place what you might of hated there then, you realize you really loved. Home is home at the end of the day. You can say good bye to the place but never the memories. It's where you grew up. Where you had your first every things. I is a part of you.

I used to toboggan down this hill. I remember it seemed like miles long..the COOLEST place to go.  On the eve of my first photo shoot I find myself filling my thoughts with memories from home. All of the good, and all of the bad has brought me to this moment. I can smile or cry but I would not be here if it wasn't for my past, for Edmonton, for my home. So I guess this is a "shout out" post to everyone reading and who has come in to my life, gone, and stayed. Thank you for your support and just so you know I would not be here without you. Remember this always.  JC

Women in Black

Women In Black

Considering Men In Black just finished filming here in Vancouver, and I happen to be in l.o.v.e with my new black Wilfred coat from Aritzia (having a snooze you lose sale right now 50-70% off), I figured why not do a blog post tribute to our famous M.I.B. With my own spin, and a touch of colour of course. This outfit is a solid idea if you wake up and are still half asleep while staring at your closet when it is time to get going in the morning. AKA you wake up and feel like I do 90% of the time. Black is always a safe bet. Simple "bed-head" curls with a claw clip, btw if you have curly hair and you are hating the rain as much as I am lately, use Bumble & Bumble-I know it just seems like more of a summer thing but honestly it works like a charm. One of my best friends Diana taught me this, she said "always have a statement necklace" I was never one for big jewellery but since her tip I kinda have become addicted to big chunky necklaces. Go big or go home I guess?

Might I just point out on this fabulous candid..a man.. in black. Must of been meant to be. JC

gravity pope

gravity pope.

I grew up with this store in Edmonton. When you walk in you are not just looking at shoes, you're looking at art. An organized mess one might say. With over 70 different labels of shoes Gravity Pope is not your average shoe store. Located in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver and also online this independent boutique is going no where but up in the ranks of shoe and tailored retail. Louise Dirks, founder and owner of Gravity Pope, has created a environment not just for the trendy youth but for everyone. The stores have such a wide range of footwear that literally can cater to every single shoe lover. Men and Women have so many brands to choose from, I find myself in there for hours just staring at the walls. Often stuck at the first wall of shoes finding a new pair every time I start from the front. It's like a "Where's Waldo" game only you're not just looking for one. I find myself feeling as though I have walked into some designers studio in New York when I go. It's just that vibe you get. You can get brands you can't find anywhere else in Alberta or BC. Almost like a mini vacation from the winter streets of Whyte Ave or the rainy days of Vancouver and 4th. Take a look you might just step into something fabulous. JC
